I am sorry for posting in here, but I was wondering if someone actually went in person to the Houston Consulate to get their passport renewed. Also, do we need to have any reason to attend in person at the Consulate such as emergency, etc.

It is better to appear in person because of the two reasons:
1. Avoid any chances of losing/delaying the mail.
2. If any extra document is needed, you will come to know right away and you can ask your questions/doubts at the same time.
I went in person to the SFO Office and got my passport next day.

IV Core,
What is IV's position on ammendents for people who have filed PERM only and have not filed I-140 yet.
There shall be an ammendement which allows these people to keep using old system(EB) to get their green card.
It is totally un-fair to null and void their application and get them into new point based systems and force them to face long delays.
Please let us know.

I think most of the members in this forum updated their data, at least from EB3 India I am sure. If you guys can pull data according to PD from administration console, you should be able get some valuable data to show. I wondered why this has not been done so far??? million dollar question???

I think what AILA, our core group and other attorneys are trying to say is that as long as you filed before May 15, 2007 you will be fine regardless of whether your petition is pending or approved. There is no dispute about this point. Any applications that were filed after May 15, 2007 will become null and void the day this bill is signed by the president to make it a law. The 'effective date' ( Oct 1, 2008 ) does not apply for applications filed after May 15, 2007. I will be glad if you can prove me wrong :)

Did not want to say this before I contributed, but I still believe that the forum should not be only for paying members. By having certain parts of the forum open to public we can convert lot more people like me as opposed to asking for money right from the get go.

We have a one month window to push for HR 5882, let us focus on that. if it doesnt work then we have no hope. at this rate EB3 will not even move 6 months per year. In retrospect every minor gain for the EB community has had major implications to EB 3 and the backlog as a whole (just venting a bit, dont want to drag it into a big discussion). I remember last year there were many who were saying 'now that we have EAD and AP we are good', this year many will realize the additional pain of renewals and waiting.
Oh's site mentions the following (per country limit is both family and EB based)
"The numerical limits for FY-2008 are as follows: (a) Worldwide Family-sponsored preference limit: 226,000, (b) Worldwide Employment-based preference limit: 162,704. Under the INA Section 202(A), the per-country limit is fixed at 7% of the family and employment annual limits. For FY-2008 the per-country limit is 27,209. The dependent area annual limit is 2%, or 7,774.

Pappu, I agree what you are saying. But the bigger issue here is the awareness.. I talk to so many friends and friend's friend. The only thing that I find is they are not aware of IV or its effort.
Lack of awareness is another issue for IV community to form a lobby group like others.
IV has too many contacts in the media, would that not be a great idea to leverage them to advertise at prime time on Indian channels , or just the google ads on Dishnetwork screen for cheap or work out something.
Just to get the people an awareness of what IV is and get them a feeling that its BIG enough to help them. Support some candidates in the election, just to get the name floating. Leave aside the American, Indians or chinese(mostly the legal immigrants) I sometime work with don't know anything about IV. I go to SFO meet my parents almost every month and my brother's circle (all citizens) have no idea of what I am talking about. All they know there was problem is Labor clearance in their time which is no more now.
What is IV , who is IV........ no idea at all. NADA.
A planned campaign to make th awareness can help our cause.

After passing this bill politicians will cosy up and say good things to rebuild relations. The real impact can happen if Indians in New York state who can vote stand up against such laws. Same goes for the Desi companies who have tried to raise the voice against USCIS memo. They lack grassroots advocacy and support. Their Indian US citizen friends are busy organizing Diwali melas and Shahrukh Khan stage shows. Immigration voice can be extremely successful if politicians see us as an immigrant lobby. Just like they see Jewish lobby or Hispanic lobby. This is why participation of IV greencard members and citizen friends is important to advocate for changes that helps the immigrant community. I this case too, IV community should not turn a blind eye to what happens around us. Just because we do not work for such companies or we already have EAD does not mean we do not see beyond the headline of this issue. We spend more time analyzing , over analyzing, predicting and tracking rather than actively understanding the politics of issues that are causing all the problems we are facing. To some extent this law passed because Indians in USA did not care due to their narrow outlook and priorities in politics.

Update. My attorney has sent a letter (interfiling process) to USCIS mentioning that my case is current now. One of my friends got 485 approved within 2 weeks after initiating interfiling process. I hope it would be the same case with me.

AP isn't appoved yet. I have to wait for the approval in order to use that upon reentry.
And yes someone can surely mail me the document. In that case I just have to hope the AP dosen't have any misprints or something.

Do not complain, mine is RIR PD Oct. 2001 and still waiting. I think they should hire someone with brain to handle the missmanagement, like an H1 visa holder. Ooops, I forgot, cap already reached till Oct 2007.
